Born and raised in Hong Kong, HOK CHUN ANTHONY KWAN moved to the USA
in 2003. In 2011, while studying mechanical and aerospace engineering at the
University of Minnesota, Kwan joined the university’s student newspaper The
Minnesota Daily as a staff photographer, thus unintentionally launching his career
in photojournalism. What began as an extracurricular interest grew into an all-
consuming passion and eventually led Kwan to abandon engineering and become
a professional freelance photographer. Gaining access to the lives and stories of
his subjects, he captures candid moments of emotion, truth, and, at times, humor.
Anthony currently lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but is planning to
return to Hong Kong, and perhaps pursue work in mainland China.
