PETER THOSHINSKY is a 54 year old San Francisco based freelance photographer just entering a new career in photojournalism and social documentary photography. Peter was born and raised in San Francisco during the 1960’s and 1970’s, and has been shaped by its politics and beliefs. During the last 31 years Peter has worked as a San Francisco Police Officer assigned to the Tenderloin and Bayview neighborhoods where he photographed his experiences, and produced a book entitled ‘Blue in Black and White’ in 1999. During this time Peter did extensive work photographing with the Public Relations Unit, contributing his photos to various City projects, and providing images for display in public buildings. He has been a contributing photographer to the San Francisco Police Officers Association Journal Newspaper, and the San Francisco Bay Area Reporter, the oldest and longest running LGBT newspaper in the world. He also volunteers his time at the Harvey Milk Photo Center. “The more and more I have seen of this world, the more I realize I need to look again at everything from a different angle.” Peter says, Things are not what we assume them to be. Always add a question mark to what we think we know. That’s what I like to do with my camera”.
