
23/09/12 – An orthodox Jew performs the ritual of Kapparot at the Mea Shearim orthodox neighborhood in Jerusalem…The ritual is practiced by orthodox and religious Jews before Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement that is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar…The person swings a live chicken over one’s head three times, symbolically transferring one’s sins to the chicken…The chicken is then slaughtered and donated to the poor for consumption at the pre-fast meal…..Photo:Ariel Jerozolimski.
