March 19, 2023, Paris, France: French riot police surround a group of people that wanted to protest near the commercial shopping center of Les Halles in the center of Paris. Paris has seen protests since the government of Emmanuel Macron pushed the highly contested pension reform through the French parliament without the need for a majority vote, in effect bypassing them. Prime minister Elisabeth Borne has decided to bypass the lower house as the government thought it might not have a guaranteed majority, putting in doubt adopting the controversial law.
