The story of La Catrina began as a social critique and satirical portrayal of bourgeois society during the late 19th-century dictatorship, is now the iconic symbol of the Day of the Dead. While the holiday is often associated with Mexico, today it is celebrated all around the world. 2023 marks the 135th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Japan.
