Evacuations in Ukraine’s Sumy region, especially for the elderly, have been challenging due to constant Russian attacks, with residents often refusing to leave, leading to difficult rescues by groups like the ”White Angels” and Red Cross. Many elderly become trapped, facing abduction risks, as seen in Hrabovske where older residents were taken to Russia. Humanitarian efforts focus on providing transport and aid for those evacuating, with UNHCR and partners assisting with transit centers, despite ongoing risks and limited capacity for specialized care for the aging population.
