Jayson Achtenberg, 13, is transitioning to male from his birth-assigned female gender. While still in middle school, he decided begin hormone replacement therapy earlier than planned in order to start before Georgia’s new SB140 law takes effect July 1. The new law will prohibit doctors from performing gender-affirming surgeries or prescribing hormone replacements to Georgians under 18. The 66 year old Kakhovka dam on the Dnieper River in southern Ukraine collapsed on the morning of June 6 after an explosion triggered a catastrophic humanitarian and environmental crisis. The dam sits on the frontline between warring armies, and was under Russian control at the time. Spanning an area of more than 800 square miles, the reservoir is the country’s largest in terms of volume and provides water for more than 700,000 people. The breach caused extensive flooding and has displaced more than 20,000 people across dozens of villages. As the water level continues to drop, there will not be enough water for the irrigation canals and according to Ukraine’s environment ministry ‘We will not be able to cultivate agricultural plants on this soil for many years.
