Story of the Week of October 6, 2020 on zReportage.com: ‘ONLY THE BRAVE: Wildfire Hotshots’ zReportage #756 by ZUMA Press Photographer Paul Kuroda, a Pulitzer finalist and NPPA photographer of the year winner. Kuroda specializes in covering wildfires with unique access including ride-alongs with fire crews on the ground. Wildfires in California continue to burn, ravaging entire communities and the blazes will soon hit a tragic milestone: 4 million acres burned. The unprecedented fire season has already killed 30 people, burned down thousands of buildings and homes and forced more than 96,000 residents to evacuate. While wildfires are a natural part of California’s landscape, the fire season across the West is starting earlier and ending later each year. Climate change is considered a key driver of this trend. Warmer spring and summer temperatures, reduced snowpack, and earlier spring snowmelt create longer and more intense dry seasons that make forests more susceptible to severe wildfire. June 13, 2020, San Diego, California, USA: ROBERT HERRING, SR., center, speaks to a group of about 50 people gathered at the headquarters of San Diego-based One America News Network to protest what they say is a series of lies, misinformation and conspiracy theories propagated by the organization. The channel, known as OANN or OAN, was founded by Herring in 2013 and is a right-leaning media company that counts President Trump as a regular viewer. Trump was the subject of criticism after re-Tweeting a conspiracy theory that claimed a 75-year-old protester pushed to the ground by police in Buffalo, New York, was an ”antifa provocateur.” In anticipation of the protest, OANN locked-down the facility, preventing anyone from entering or leaving for five hours. Armed guards were hired to protect the property.

October 1, 2020, Hong Kong, CHINA: A man display national flag of INDIA, and shouted, ‘ long live India, support India ‘ during PRC National Day Protest. In light of recent armed conflict between PRC and India at the boarder, some Hong Kongers are expressing their support for India, ‘hoping’ that India would defeat Chinese Communist Regime,should the war break out between the two nations. Hong Kongers demonstrated on the PRC national day with defiance ignoring police warning of engaging in an ‘unlawful assembly’.
