German soldiers from the Wachbataillon took part in the nighttime “Bollwerk Baerlin III” exercise at Jungfernheide U-Bahn station in Berlin on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. Just 25 miles from the border with Russia, Sumy is home to an estimated 200,000 people, the vast majority civilians who have continued living there during Russia’s war, with many civilians taking up arms. Ukraine has made no secret of the urgent need to recruit more people as it tries to defend itself against the Russian aggression. Estimates speak of hundreds of thousands of casualties on both sides of the conflict since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Russia has captured several settlements in the region and now appears to be within artillery range of Sumy city as they attempt to gain further territory with drones and rockets causing death and destruction across a wide area. These indiscriminate attacks have wreaked havoc on civilian life yet many residents choose to stay and fight to defend their homeland. Welcome to ‘Everyone Will Fight’
