Baraka called the charges “unwarranted” and emphasized that the larger issue at stake is the fight to protect the constitutional rights of all during a press conference after his hearing at the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Courthouse in Newark, New Jersey. The U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed it will proceed to trial, with a tentative date expected for mid-July.

May 16, 2025, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA: Police and Investigators outside the Las Vegas Athletic Club (LVAC) on Rainbow Ave. A shooting inside a Las Vegas gym Friday afternoon left two people dead, including the suspect, and injured at least three others. Officers shot the suspect, who was armed with a gun, after he ran out the door. He was confirmed dead at a local hospital.

Two fires, one on May 19th and a second on May 20th 2025, broke out at the recently purchased home for Secretary of the Navy John Phelan. The home, which recently sold for $8.5 million dollars, is in the Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, D.C., just a few houses away from former President Barrack Obama’s house. One firefighter was injured in the blaze when they fell down an elevator shaft in the home.

May 16, 2025, Berlin, Hamburg, Germany: In a powerful display of Jewish resilience, hope, and unity, people gathered in Berlin’s Olivaer Platz on Friday, May 16, 2025, for a Lag BaOmer march organized by Chabad Berlin. The peaceful procession, held under the motto “For Peace and Tolerance – Bring Them Home,” called for the immediate release of Israeli hostages still held in Gaza by the Hamas terror group. This year, the celebration bore a weightier symbolism: solidarity with the kidnapped, remembrance of Jewish suffering, and defiance in the face of rising antisemitism in Europe. With signs reading “Keep Calm, Be Jewish,” and “Tolerant and Diverse,” children and parents joined in singing, dancing, and chanting for peace. Marchers made their way along the iconic Kurfuerstendamm, the heart of West Berlin, as onlookers paused to witness a rare moment of Jewish joy.
