London-based ZUMA photojournalist Mark Makela has a taste for politics, and flew to South Carolina to cover the Republican presidential hopefuls campaigning ahead of the Palmetto State’s primary election. He spent two weeks there, logged thousands of miles on his rental car, attended dozens of speeches and had his fill of Southern cooking. Every time he had a few minutes to catch his breath, Makela uploaded photos to ZUMA, and we liked his work so much we put it all together in this week’s zReportage package, “How To Run For President.” Once the story went live (and before he could get on a plane back home), Makela took to his Twitter account and let some newsmakers know about the photos. He tweeted a link to the story to politicians he covered, photographers he knows and other journalists he met on the campaign trail. Plenty of them thought the pictures were worth sharing with their followers, so they retweeted Makela’s work. Among them were the Daily Beast, the BBC’s North America editor and NBC’s White House correspondent Chuck Todd:
With those clicks, Mark put his work in front of about a half a million people, and that was before he even touched down back home in London for some much-deserved rest.

Nice work, Mark.
