March 19, 2019 – Beira, Mozambique – An aerial view of the destruction of homes in Praia Nova, Beira after Tropical Cyclone Idai destroyed and damaged homes and knocked out electricity and communications. Tropical Cyclone Idai made landfall on the evening of 14 March near the central Mozambican city of Beira. The cyclone caused significant destruction in Beira, Mozambique’s fourth largest city with a population of over 500,000. The full extent of the damages remain unclear as roads are cut off, including those leading to the city. Power and communications lines are down.
