Story of the Week #784: TUESDAY April 27, 2021: LOST IN LIMBO by award winning photographer Raquel Natalicchio who specializes in social justice issues: In the weeks after Joe Biden’s inauguration, migrants in the city of Tijuana began to leave the shelters and apartments where they’d been living in favor of an outdoor encampment near the city’s center. In March, it had grown into a shantytown of more than 1,000 people, and today almost 2,000 migrants. In the small tent city people have little to eat and there’s no running water. But it has a prime location, its right across from the El Chaparral Port of Entry, the nearest legal crossing into the United States. Hoping that the doors to the USA might soon open, they set up camp at the very foot of the country’s entrance. Critics say the president’s welcoming tone is encouraging illegal immigration. But migrants themselves have a different view, that the real problem is that he hasn’t figured out what he wants to do. Welcome to: LOST IN LIMBO
