March 6, 2023, Manila, The Philippines: A driver taking part in a strike sleeps on his jeepney in downtown Manila, amid the nationwide 7-day strike against the government’s transport modernization program which aims to replace old vehicles. The diesel-powered jeepneys, evolved from US military jeeps, are often referred to as ‘King of the Road,’ and part of the south East Asian country’s culture. The program will older jeepneys replaced with enhanced safety features and better carbon emission standards..
