Jeepneys, evolved from US military jeeps and are often know as King of the Road, are essential to Filipino commuters because of its low fares and convenient pickup and drop off locations. Many locals consider it as an inalienable part of both the cultures and history of the Philippines that established their identity as Filipino. But the transportation modernisation program would eliminate traditional jeepneys as it aims to replace aging vehicles, including the historical jeepneys, with ones that feature higher safety and cabin emission standards.
