June 30, 2025: It’s fawn season for the black-tailed deer along the Umpqua River in southwestern Oregon. This footage captures peaceful moments in the life of one of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic animals. Black-tailed deer are a subspecies of mule deer, found primarily in the coastal regions of northern California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Unlike their mule deer relatives of the interior West, black-tails thrive in dense forested habitats and are especially active at dawn and dusk.
