On September 13th, as families in eastern Armenia slept, Azerbaijan launched an unprovoked shelling on Armenian towns. The two former Soviet countries have been locked in off-and-on hostilities for decades over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh republic, as Azerbaijan’s regime takes advantage of the global, especially Russian, distraction. Azerbaijan attempted to deny a rocket attack, but NASA’s fire management satellites detected massive thermal anomalies. In just two days, Azerbaijan’s forces killed over 200 Armenians. Taiwan’s annual The Excellent Journalism Awards has just announced the shortlist of submissions. The Excellent Journalism Awards’ aim is to establish a standard of excellence in journalism ethics and professionalism.
Representing ZUMA Press, Daniel Shou Yi Ceng’s photos from his coverage of the war in Ukraine have been shortlisted in the Single Image Category and the Series Photos Category for the awards.
ZUMA Press has been reported by the Taiwanese media as one of the two media that scored two shortlisted works among other contenders. Final results will be announced in mid-Nov.
