With Russia’s war on Ukraine now in its 18th month, the Ukrainian National Guard’s Azov unit in Odessa trains civilians who want to learn survival skills, including how to shoot, provide first aid and recognize land mines. These and other skills could be used in the hostile environment provoked by missile strikes and other attacks during the Russian invasion. Thousands of volunteers have expressed their desire to fight for their homeland. But it’s not just men, it’s also Ukrainian women who continue to bravely fight for freedom. Welcome to ‘CALL TO ARMS’.

July 12, 2019 – Yerevan, Armenia – Lake Sevan is one of the largest mountainous lakes in Europe and Asia and is facing environmental problems. It sits in the middle of the Armenian Highland at an altitude of 1914 meters. An algae bloom is threatening to spread and is believed to have been caused by chemical and untreated waste, a draw down of water for agricultural and other uses, and an illegal catch of lake fish. Additionally plastic waste is in and around the lake along with litter from various sources. The government is trying to act quickly to remedy these problems. The lakes water surface is 1,500 square kilometers and Sevan is the main resource of drinking water in the region. (Credit Image: © Kenneth Martin/ZUMA Wire)

Mpumalange province is well known for its highly fertile agricultural land, half of South Africa’s crops are produced here. Now home to hundreds of coal mines, illegal waste dumps and twelve large coal fired power stations, where human lives have been shattered and clean air and water have turned into poison. The toxic air is a consequence of South Africa’s heavy reliance on coal-fired power generation, which produces pollutants linked to deadly health issues. In 2022 a judge ordered the SA government to target emissions, uphold right to healthy environment. However Socioeconomic development plans, which have been promised by the SA government, are non-existent. Welcome to ‘COAL COMA’

Gold in General News: Saving King of the Road by Daniel Ceng

March 8, 2023, Manila, Manila, The Philippines: Passengers in a jeenpey during the morning rush hours in Manila on March 8, as the nationwide strike against the government’s transportation modernisation program enters its 3rd day. Jeepneys, evolved from US military jeeps and are often know as King of the Road, are essential to Filipino commuters because of its low fares and convenient pickup and drop off locations. Many locals consider it as an inalienable part of both the cultures and history of the Philippines that established their identity as Filipino. But the transportation modernisation program would eliminate traditional jeepneys as it aims to replace aging vehicles, including the historical jeepneys, with ones that feature higher safety and cabin emission standards.
