The war in Ukraine has shown how difficult it is to live anything like a normal life when fighting is going on around you. More than 5 million people have fled from the country since Russia invaded 6 months ago, and an estimated 7.5 million are displaced, yet much of the country’s population has remained, and they’re trying to do their work and support their families despite the onslaught. The UN recently reported over 3 million ‘cross-border movements’ back into Ukraine, and Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said the city’s population was back to two-thirds of its pre-war level. Welcome to: ‘LIFE GOES ON’
Syrian conflict is twelve years old! When will true peace come? Or is the present peace an illusion? Syrian people have experienced a generation on a tragic rollercoaster of hope and an unimaginable degree of devastation. The numbers are horrific, 350,000 killed and 50% the country’s population of 21 million displaced. Refugees or destroyed, emotionally or economically or both. Economy in shambles, as Syria’s GDP been halved, while more than 90 percent of the population live below the poverty line. Despite a decrease in active hostilities, returnees face a host of human rights violations, including detention, torture, disappearances, and abuse by Syrian authorities. A generation lost and no true day to day peace in sight. Welcome to ‘PEACE MIRAGE’
