zReportage.com Story of the Week #748: TUESDAY August 4, 2020: INVISIBLE ENEMIES, by ZUMA Press Newspaper San Antonio Express-News photographer Lisa Krantz and Reporter Marina Starleaf Riker, who followed an EMS crew over a 24-hour shift, sometimes riding in the ambulance with the paramedic and patient. They observed as paramedics for Superior Mobile Health, a private ambulance company, transported patients to hospitals across San Antonio, including multiple who were ill with COVID-19. Riker interviewed paramedics, emergency medical technicians and upper-level managers to understand how the pandemic has strained EMS services. Ambulance crews respond an average of once an hour to transport COVID-19 patients. For paramedics, it’s a daily battle against two invisible enemies: the virus and burnout. May 12, 2020: Nursing home residents in Oneonta, New York, get visits by animal shelter dogs. Oneonta is in the Mohawk Valley region, one of three upstate New York regions that will begin to reopen May 15, 2020, after coronavirus lockdowns. Staff from the Chestnut Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Oneonta, NY, and the Susquehanna animal shelter coordinated to put on a dog parade for residents of the nursing home. Susquehanna SPCA staff circled the outside of the facility, stopping at windows to show dogs and wave to the residents. Chestnut Park curently has 71 residents who have been unable to receive visitors for nearly two months due to the COVID19 pandemic. ‘This was great for everyone ‘the animals, our staff, and the people here,’ said Stacie Haynes, executive director of the Susquehanna SPCA. ‘We’ve all been cooped up too long, and just to see all the smiles was wonderful.’

July 26, 2020, Sleman, YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA: Mount Merapi emits sulfatara smoke seen in Cangkringan, Sleman, Yogyakarta Indonesia on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Mount Merapi, located in two provinces, Central Java and Yogyakarta, is said to have experienced swelling toward the northwest. Deformation of 3 cm since June 22-29 or about less than 0.5 cm a day. This was said by the Head of the Yogyakarta Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG) Research and Development Center, Agus Budi Santoso. Agus also said, the Merapi eruption that occurred on June 21, 2020 was a fairly large explosive activity of 6000 meters and above and visually affected the 30 kilometer radius of ash to the west.
