Protests started after a video shows George Floyd being killed in police custody in Minneapolis. The death of Floyd sparked protests around the United States.

August 9, 2020, Nagasaki, Japan – Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe delivers a speech during the 75th Nagasaki Peace Ceremony at the Peace Park. To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection, attendees wore face masks during the annual ceremony to pray for the souls of those who died in the atomic bombing in Nagasaki during World War II.

Power Outages Hit Upper Manhattan

August 7, 2020, New York, USA: Blackout in Upper Manhattan. Because of a problem in transmission system, Con Edison says some areas in New York like Harlem, The Upper West side and Upper East side lost their electricity supply at about 5.13am affecting some services including some train stations, internet. Some parts of Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island are also affected. The supply has however been restored as at 6.41am but the aftermath continued to show up as subway elevators closed and some stations are still affected and heavy traffic in some areas eased by presence of Policemen.

zReportage.com Story Summary: zReportage.com Story of the Week #749: TUESDAY August 11, 2020: INSANE INVISIBLE IN DANGER, by ZUMA Press Newspaper The Tampa Bay Times photographer John Pendygraft and reporters Leonora LaPeter Anton, Anthony Cormier and Michael Braga, who together spent more than a year investigating and documenting Florida’s state-run mental hospitals, exposing institutions shrouded in secrecy. Using those records, the reporters created the first comprehensive database of injuries and violent episodes at Florida’s mental hospitals. Florida’s state-funded mental hospitals are supposed to be safe places to care for people who are a danger to themselves or others. But years of neglect and 00 million in budget cuts have turned them into treacherous warehouses where violence is out of control and patients can’t get the care they need. Since 2009, violent attacks at the state’s six largest hospitals have doubled. Nearly 1,000 patients ordered to the hospitals for close supervision managed to injure themselves or someone else.
